Why this channel exists
Serious wrongdoing is usually noticed by someone before it is discovered by an auditor. This channel exists so that person has a safe route to raise it.
It is separate from the customer complaints process. Complaints are about service; this is about conduct — fraud, dishonesty, breaches of law or regulation, and behaviour that puts customers or the institution at risk.
Reports may be made by anyone: employees, contractors, agents, suppliers, customers and former staff.
What to report
- Fraud, theft or misappropriation of funds or assets.
- Bribery, corruption, kickbacks or improper inducements.
- Money laundering, sanctions breaches or facilitation of tax evasion.
- Deliberate breaches of law, regulation or internal policy.
- Falsification, concealment or destruction of records.
- Misuse of customer data, or unauthorised access to accounts.
- Conflicts of interest that have been concealed rather than disclosed.
- Conduct that endangers the safety or fair treatment of customers or colleagues.
- Deliberate concealment of any of the above, or retaliation against someone who raised it.
You do not need proof
You need a reasonable belief that something is wrong. Investigating is our job, not yours. Do not attempt to gather evidence yourself if doing so would put you at risk or breach the law.
How to report
Write to us
Write to us from our contact page with "Report Misconduct" in the subject line. Reports sent this way reach the compliance function directly.
Or write by post
Mark the envelope "Confidential — Report Misconduct" and address it to the compliance function at Rue La Chaussée, Port Louis 11302, Mauritius. Postal reports are opened only by the compliance team.
Include what you can
What happened, when, who was involved, whether it is ongoing, and any references or documents you already have lawful access to.
Tell us how to reach you
You may report anonymously. Giving us a contact route — even an anonymous mailbox — lets us ask follow-up questions, which materially improves what an investigation can establish.
Confidentiality and anonymity
- Confidential reports
- We know who you are but restrict that knowledge to the smallest group necessary to investigate. Your identity is not disclosed to the people you have reported on, unless we are legally compelled and we would tell you first wherever possible.
- Anonymous reports
- Accepted and investigated. The limitation is practical rather than one of principle: we cannot come back to you for clarification, and we cannot update you on the outcome.
- Records
- Reports are held securely, access is logged, and retention follows our records policy. Personal data in a report is handled in line with the Privacy Statement.
Protection from retaliation
Anyone who raises a concern in good faith is protected. Retaliation is itself a disciplinary matter and, in many jurisdictions, unlawful.
- No dismissal, demotion, disciplinary action or detriment for raising a concern in good faith.
- Protection applies even if the concern later proves to be mistaken, provided it was raised honestly.
- It applies equally to anyone who assists an investigation or provides evidence.
- Any suspected retaliation is treated as a fresh report and investigated on the same basis.
The one exception
Protection does not extend to a report made maliciously or in the knowledge that it is false. Deliberately false reports are themselves misconduct.
What happens to your report
| Stage | What happens |
|---|---|
| Receipt | The report is logged in a restricted register and acknowledged where a contact route was provided, normally within seven days. |
| Assessment | Compliance assesses seriousness, credibility and any immediate risk requiring containment — for example suspending a system access. |
| Investigation | Conducted by people independent of the area concerned. Where seniority or subject matter requires it, an external investigator is appointed. |
| Escalation | Substantiated matters are escalated to executive management and, where appropriate, to the board and to the relevant regulator or law enforcement. |
| Outcome | Action may include disciplinary measures, recovery of funds, control changes, regulatory notification and criminal referral. Where you gave a contact route, we confirm that the matter is closed. |
We may not be able to share investigation detail or outcomes, because doing so could prejudice an investigation or breach the rights of the people involved. That constraint is not a measure of how seriously the report was taken.
Reporting externally
You are entitled to report directly to a regulator, supervisory authority or law enforcement agency. You do not have to come to us first, and using this channel does not remove that right.
Most financial regulators operate their own confidential whistleblowing line, and many jurisdictions provide statutory protection for people who use it.
