Only ever install our app from an official app store, and only ever sign in at our own address. An app or a link sent to you by message is not ours, however convincing it looks.
Getting it on your phone
There are two ways in, and for most people the second is faster because it needs no download at all.
Store listings
Our native apps are not published to the app stores yet. Until they are, use the home-screen method below — it gives you the same thing, and it is always the current version.
Or add the web app to your home screen
Online banking already works as an app on a phone. Adding it to your home screen gives you an icon, a full screen and no browser bars, without installing anything.
Open online banking in your phone browser
Sign in as normal so you know the address is right.
On iPhone
Tap the Share button, then "Add to Home Screen".
On Android
Tap the browser menu, then "Install app" or "Add to Home screen".
Open it from the icon
It launches full screen, and your saved sign-in works exactly as before.
Why we suggest this
The web app updates the moment we ship something, needs no storage, and cannot be impersonated by a fake listing. For most people it is simply better.
What you can do on a phone
- Check balances and search transactions, including pending card authorisations.
- Make transfers, pay bills and manage standing orders.
- Freeze and unfreeze a card, change limits and view your PIN.
- Add your card to Apple Pay or Google Pay from inside the app.
- Deposit a cheque by photographing it, where cheque deposit is supported in your market.
- Upload identity documents using the phone camera, which is far easier than scanning.
- Approve a payment raised on the desktop platform, if your account uses approval chains.
Better on a larger screen
- Bulk payables and file uploads on business accounts.
- The treasury terminal and consolidated group reporting.
- Long statement exports and detailed reconciliation work.
Keeping the phone safe
- 1Set a device passcode and turn on biometric unlock. Without that, everything else is decoration.
- 2Use an authenticator app rather than SMS codes, so a swapped SIM does not become a lost account.
- 3Keep the operating system updated. Most real-world phone compromises exploit something already patched.
- 4Never install a banking app from a link, a message or a website. Official stores only.
- 5If the phone is lost, sign in from another device and end the sessions, then tell us.
Screen-sharing is the current favourite
Fraudsters ask you to install a "support" app so they can see your screen while you sign in. We will never ask for that. Anyone who does is stealing from you.
